Intriguing Insights # 12 H - What if this is as good as it gets?

Intrinsic - Pessimistic - Status Quo
8. CYNICAL

And finally, here is the cynic, forever doubtful if anything will happen as expected. He will do nothing to change this as he is not sure if it is even worthwhile.

So we've reached the last of our behavioural identities. And yet again I have chosen to look at Hollywood, Bollywood and TV to bring out their behaviour.

Starting with Hollywood the character the came closest to this identity would have to be Melvin Udall, played by Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets. Now I know his character evolves as the film moves forward but what we see in the beginning is someone who is completely intrinsically motivated with giving little thought to those around him. He is extremely pessimistic and not interest in changing a thing around him. The clip below may give you an idea in case you have missed this masterpiece.

Now for Bollywood here is yet another brilliant enactment in a fabulous movie. This time it is Bhavani Shankar in Gol Maal played to perfection by Utpal Dutt. Now Bhavani Shankar was just not willing to change with times, he was stuck in a very traditional world and was very skeptical about anyone who moved with the times. Take a look at the clip below to get a sense. The clip is a bit long but it is fun so hope you enjoy it.

Finally coming to the TV character that best fits this identity, who comes to mind is Red Forman from That 70's Show. Here again we see someone set in his ways, unwilling to change. He is rather pessimistic about life and his motivations seem to be more intrinsic rather than extrinsic. The compilation of clips below attempts to showcase these attributes of his personality. It's a riot...

I have really enjoyed bringing you this series. Do let me know what you thought of it.
