Intriguing Insights #12 C - Heal the world

Extrinsic - Pessimistic - Action
3. CHAMPION

Now here is someone who doesn't have a great world view of the future but is action oriented and motivated by his impact on others... he choses therefor to change these dreary forecasts by his behaviour.

So here is the third identity in this series of eight behavioural identities. Now you may say if he believes he can change the world he has got to be an optimist. But the way I see it is that his larger view of things is largely pessimistic and that is where he differs from our Extrinsic - Pessimistic - Action oriented Mr. Celebrated.

Now popular culture has a resounding number of Champions portrayed, in movies, shows, songs and a host of other channels.

I am going to focus on three examples... The first coming from the title of this post. For my younger readers, if you are unfamiliar, take a look at the clip below.

Now, if you go over the lyrics you will see that the songs is all about taking action to ensure the situation we are in can be changed. It is motivated by making a difference for all and not an intrinsic motivation.

My second example is the Amitabh Bachchan classic Main Azaad Hoon. A newspaper reporter pays a man to use his name to print stories about corrupt politicians, but he goes on to becomes a champion of the ordinary man for real. The lyrics of the song also bring out the characteristics of our Mr. Champion as you can see in the clip below.

My final example is the Starz show Spartacus. Whether on the show or in reality - I think Spartacus embodies the characteristics of a pessimistic, action oriented, extrinsically motivated Champion.
