Bias Binge #10 - You got a dream, you gotta protect it

The Optimism Bias refers to our tendency to overestimate our likelihood of experiencing positive events and underestimate our likelihood of experiencing negative events. Now this bias is often looked at as the difference in our expectations and the outcome that follows. Or even a mistaken believe that we will encounter more positive events and less negative ones.

But that is only something one can truly experience in hindsight. I am choosing to look at this bias as something that let's us go after a seemingly impossible dream only because we believe it is possible at some level.

To quote BBC - Too much optimism can derail projects and even put your health at risk, say experts – but the right amount can propel you bravely toward success.

My clip today, and the last one in this series, is one that echoes this very thought. To see where it takes the protagonist of the movie, you will need to see this movie if you haven't already. It would surely be a step in the right direction in The Pursuit of Happyness.

On that positive note, I would like to conclude this series. Watch this space for more such series and other insights and influences that try to understand the vast mystery of consumer behaviour.
